Endorsement Criteria
IEPAC will seek to make financial and in-kind contributions, within the law, to a select pool of candidates in each election cycle. The IEPAC Board of Directors will select endorsements and/or direct a total level of support, determining the best use of resources.
NOTE: IEPAC is a state political action committee. Under campaign law, IEPAC cannot make endorsements in the races for United States Senate, United States Congress, or President.
The following criteria will be considered in the endorsement process. None of these items should be considered a stand-alone requirement, nor are any a “litmus” test for any candidate
- The office the candidate is seeking has an impact on the LGBT community, or issues important to the community
- Candidate has demonstrated support of LGBT rights through public statements, actions, and/or votes on key issues
- Candidate reaches a reasonable threshold of viability
- Candidate has a real need for financial support and a demonstrated financial plan to raise the remainder of the needed funds
- Candidates’ endorsement by other organizations in coalition with IEPAC
- District is involved in overlapping races that are also a priority
- Election of the candidate to present office would increase viability in future races
- Candidate is the incumbent in a given race
- Candidate willingness to seek and promote the endorsement
